Like a bowl full of jelly

I'm jiggly in all the wrong places. I'm a "Before" photograph with no "After." My weight is really getting out of hand. I kid you not when I tell you that I often sense that someone is following me, only to realize that it's my own rear end.

It took years for me to learn to love -- or at least accept -- myself for who I am. But with the recent increase in the amount of me that there is to love, I have come to realize that my continued acceptance might just lead to a heart attack one of these days. I could become the next "Suicide by Fat -- Obesity Revealed" specimen in Dr. Gunther von Hagens' Body Worlds exhibit. That ain't a pretty thought.

I'm such a fan of yours, Jen, I probably shouldn't comment, but here goes:

The people who really care about you will accept you as you are, just like Billy Joel said.

If you want to lose weight, do it for your health, your happiness, etc.

Don't do it because people will like you or that you feel you have to conform to some twisted vision of what beauty is.

We don't need any more well-dressed skeletons running around.

This really is all about you.

Anonymous, I love you too.

har, you always make me laugh!

Rob, thank you so much for your thoughtful comments. I must admit, though, that I'm not even well-dressed. ;)

I agree with Rob!! Also, I don't know that you have body dysmorphia but you definitely aren't as big as you think you are. Love you!!

Apparently body dysmorphic disorder, in addition to making some folks extremely critical of their own bodies, can cause some people to believe that certain body parts don't belong to them. (A recent episode of Grey's Anatomy featured a patient who was convinced that his foot belonged to somebody else. He wanted it amputated.) While I have plenty of body to share, at least I'm resigned to the fact that it's alllll mine.
