It's always something.

This morning it was dog vomit. Three puddles of it. One on Ferris' mat, and two on the bed in his crate. The latter two puddles contained a bit of blood, so off to the vet we went. If nothing else, I figured it would give Ferris a good half-hour walk.

I called ahead and promised to be at the clinic by 9:00 am, but it's garbage day and you can't rush a dog on garbage day. There's just so much to sniff. By the time we arrived we were in line behind something that appeared to be a growling wad of Kleenex and a pit bull who had swallowed a "foreign body." When I got to the counter I noticed that the receptionist had already prepared an estimate for $618. "Kill me now," I thought. "Save Scott the trouble."

Eventually the vet was able to squeeze us in, and I am now at home awaiting the results of Ferris' blood test. He's off the steroids until this new problem is resolved, which may mean a resumption of his hideous itching. It's always something.

Spot the Greenies

Ban the greenies from your home or you won't have any more 'green' left to pay for his food or vet bills.

Indeed, the vet told me today that he's not a fan of Greenies, either, but only because of the choking hazard. I never feed Ferris anything unless I'm there to watch him eat it, but as of now we will stop buying Greenies (and rawhide). The vet thinks that Ferris either vomited so violently that it caused him to bleed, or that there is an issue with his internal organs. Naturally I'm hoping that it's the former cause. I'll keep you posted...

Your omelet is a little runny. I'd give it a couple of more minutes in the pan.

ugh. perhaps try bits of real veggies as his treats...or good old milk bones or even dentabones.

I'd bet on the vomiting so much that he burst a blood vessel. With our four dogs it happens occasionally. It looks as if there might be some grass in there as well. If it's really rough grass that can irritate and cause blood as well.

Good Luck!!!

Thank you one and all for your comments and suggestions. From now on I'll skip the pseudo-edible dog treats, feed Ferris veggie snacks, and cook my omelets a little longer. :P

How is he doing?

He's still a bit itchy and still appears to be hallucinating, but he appears to be better than he was last week.

Thanks for asking!

Did the vet put him back on the steroids? Poor guy has been through a lot and they suffer with their tails wagging.
Not like us, especially not like me!! I'd be unbearable if I had to tolerate what he has put up with!!!

No, he's not back on steroids yet. The vet still wants to do another blood test. I'm not sure whether to let him draw more blood or move on to a new clinic.

Move, move, move!!!

Okay, okay, okay!!! I just called the vet clinic and the receptionist told me that they don't usually release patient files to clients, however she will talk to the the vet. Naturally they don't want to make it easy to switch to a new clinic, but it irks me that the medical info I paid for is being kept from me. I am awaiting the vet's decision. I am not at all optimistic.

I just don't understand, they should belong to you as do your doctors files. You have paid dearly for those files!!!

I agree with you -- although I have heard stories about how difficult it is to get one's own medical records, too, and that you have to pay for the privilege. I'm so frustrated!

I'll be very interested to hear how you make out!!

Good Luck!

That omelette is making me hungry.

It intrigues me that a photograph of vomit has generated more comments than any of my other posts.
